How To Get Started With Creating Your Own Home Based Business With Network Marketing

It’s 5 a.m., there’s an annoying buzzing noise in your ear…You’re not ready to rise before the sun or leave your warm bed, but you have no other choice. You’ve got bills and they need to get paid. I don’t know about you, but I chased my dream job, achieved it and then realized it wasn’t quite the dream I thought it would be…

Especially, when you add a kid or more into the mix. Then things get really interesting.

Suddenly you realize you’re tired, under paid, under appreciated and what little time you do have with your family is either spent rushing them off to school or childcare or rushing them off to bed at night. Your days off, the few you get, you try to make the best of them. That is until you realize that 1 of those 2 days you’re faking energy you don’t have to try to be “fun” for your family and the other day(s) your brain is consumed anyway by preparing for the upcoming week of work…

Basically, you’ve lost that loving feeling for you J-O-B. That’s why you’re here after all isn’t it. You’re kind of over it but yet you’re not really sure is there another viable option. But you’re fortunate because there is…

Many in fact and there is two different paths you could follow and they will depend on answering these questions what path you’ll try first. Notice I said “try” because even then should you make the wrong choice, it’s ok, you’re not stuck. In fact, the first steps are a process of self discovery and diving into your goals for you, your family and your legacy.

And that is:

  1. Income: Are you ok with taking a cut in income in order to not have to drive into an office? Or do you want to at least maintain your current income or do you want to increase your income significantly?
  2. Location: Are you happy with just converting offices and being stuck with only working from home? Or, do you want to work from home with the options of being mobile and being able to work from anywhere, any time you choose?
  3. Schedule: Is it ok for your job to determine your hours and what you can do and when you can do it? Or do you want the flexibility of structuring your job around what matters most to you (family, fun, fitness, friends, adventures, achievements)?
  4. Purpose: Are you seeking fulfillment beyond what you’re currently experiencing? A way to fill your cup and fill others? Are you looking for more than a job, but rather a calling?

If you’re looking to make basically a lateral switch minus the commute and even possibly take a pay cut…then you could do a lot of things: style hair from your home, become a personal/virtual assistant, online surveys, massage therapy, book keeping, etc…but oddly enough many of the “work from home” options aren’t really at home. They will have you going to other people’s homes or in the car or needing to learn a completely new trade from the ground up.

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t about to leave a successful and well known local small business to take a step back. If we were going to create a change, we wanted it to be significant change with the option of exponentially compounding abundance over time and the ability to help us and others achieve the dreams we had as youngsters but had put on a shelf when we entered the “real world”.

So now I’m just going to ask you 3 questions and I want you to set what you think is possible aside and honestly answer:

  1. What do you want?
  2. Why do you want it?
  3. How will it help your family?

The first key to starting your home based business is knowing “why” do you want this in the first place. You will need this as motivation when the roadblocks appear (because they will) and to steer you down the right path that matches your ultimate goal.

Now that you have an idea of what you want and why you want it, we can talk about the “How’s”. Specifically, the second path…the path least traveled.

         Now, this is coming from a person who has actually taken both paths. Harold and I have been business owners with a local store front in our own community. We served our community with our skills for a decade…

And our story does not go as most when I tell you, we were pretty successful as far as local small businesses go for several years when our interests starting turning other options for income. We were not suddenly forced to create an extra stream of revenue, in fact, we were just looking for a way to better serve the people we were already serving.

For us, our current gig was the main Gig and it always would be. I had dreams of creating franchises for that business, it was my baby. And, any good entrepreneur is always looking for ways to maximize income and increase the quality of service. That was our only agenda initially when we started our #sidehustle with our current network marketing company…

In fact, I will never forget telling my sponsor quite boldly and rudely, “Don’t ever expect me to offer this to anyone else, I just have 5 people who can benefit from this product and service.”

Ouch, famous last words as now Harold and I are amongst the top leaders of our company earning a significant income freeing others. But, what happened after just treating our network marketing gig as a spare time thing for 2 years was incredible! We only invested a few hours a week into that business and, honestly we were not even very consistent with that, however it still grew and within 2 years we were earning an additional teacher’s salary. Now things did eventually get tough with our “real business” and after the glory started to fade and, I’ll spare you the dramatics, basically we found ourselves about to go out of business and wondering how we would pay our mortgage…

Having a small network marketing business that was growing despite our attention or lack there of was a clear sign for us that if we watered it more, it would grow more. And it did! Our Network Marketing gig saved our home, our other business too and our finances at time in our lives when for the first time we feared bankruptcy…

Ok, so do I have your attention now?! Network Marketing is a LEGIT option for not only creating an additional stream of revenue, working from anywhere, creating passive income but also for creating the life of your dreams.

But where should you start? Don’t worry, it’s not that complicated, but there are a few things to look for as you start to search for what company and offering best suit your family, your talents, and your goals. Here is a simple checklist to start sorting through the options:

  1. What NWM companies are you familiar with? Do a google search for “top network marketing companies (insert current year). You don’t have to select the Top company or even the top 50 company. How high a company ranks is not necessarily an indicator of what your success will be. For instance, the company we’re with is steadily climbing the ranks, however, our company has a high rate of full-timers and then some.
  2. Find a company AND a product/service you can be excited about, benefit from and become a walking talking billboard for…if you can’t stop talking about how it’s changed your life and how amazing it is, that’s a good thing. Belief and testimony build confidence.
  3. Get clear on the compensation plans. Unfortunately there are some wonderful companies, with wonderful trips, beautiful car incentives, great products even BUT they don’t compensate well and if you earn over 5 digits a month, you’re a unicorn. And some companies and distributors confuse people with a lot of “fluff”. Always look for what actual earning (what is getting deposited into your bank account each month) potential per month at specific ranks and how many people in the company are at those ranks. For us, we didn’t want car bonuses, we wanted actual money deposited into our account regularly and the option of qualifying for trips, passive income potential. And that’s exactly what we found. Also beware of “One Hit Wonders”, many distributors will flash their income, but often this was a one time or seldom hit high earning. This is also against FTC regulations.
  4. Do you know people who have achieved a level of success with that company? How has their life transformed? The first 2 years of our business we were on HIGH alert. As very discerning people, we were going to events, meeting people in the company, watching them on facebook and listening to the way they spoke and watching how they live. Do our beliefs match up? Is the income real and consistent. If it is, you will see it if you’re looking at the right details. And similar beliefs, values and priorities are important. For instance, as family people with young kids, we did not want to be involved with a party company that consists of mostly single people or young people without families. Remember, you are building a life around what matters most to YOU. Not someone else.

Lastly, let me finish with what doesn’t matter: your current skill set or influence. Here’s why, if you are hungry, humble and coachable…you can learn anything you desire in this industry and you can build anything you need. And, what’s incredibly wonderful about that is that in the process you will end up becoming the best version of yourself and you will be incredibly hopeful about each and every day because you will know, as we have come to know, that you CAN be the intentional creator of the life you live.
